Piggy Piggy 2nd wip
It's been a while since I've done an oil painting . I've almost forgotten how much fun oils are, but I did remember how I prefer to paint on gesso board rather then canvas. I still have the background, teeth, shirt, and eyes left. It's 12x12" on canvas. I'm using oils.

The Stitch
I did a bunch of drawings, sketches, and other things last year, that I never got a chance to put up on my blog. So in the spirit of trying to get better updating and posting more, i'll mix some oldies in with the new.
This one is 7x10.5 pencil, ink, watercolor, and acrylic on cold press watercolor paper.

Bohemia Show
Here is a new painting for upcoming fund raising show coming up at Alchemy Juice Bar, in Hartford. The event is happening 1/23/10. It's a can food and clothing drive. So come check it out, because this cell phone photo doesn't do this 40"x30" painting any justice, plus it is for a great cause...the homeless!

Shy One Update...
It's been a while since I've posted. Mostly because I've been getting involved alot with the MAC 650 Gallery. But none the less I've still been working on side projects and gearing up for the Robots and Twinkies show coming in November. That brings me to this painting. It's the newest finished illustration for the Shy One at the Orgy project I've been working on with Adam Buldger. Adam probably wants to kill me cause I'm taking my sweet-ass time finishing this project, but believe it or not the end is near. Expect to see more!Later,

The Salty Slug's 100th Post
Well I decided to do something special for my 100th post on the Slug. That is why I haven't blogged in a while. So above is the multi medium Illustration I did for this glorious post. It is 5"x10.5" on 100lb Stathmore Bristol paper. I used Acrylic paint, Prismacolor pencils, Bic pen, and sharpie markers to pull this baby off. It's title is,"The Slug Verses the Worm in the Battle for the Pooping Grounds". I got the idea the other night when I brought my dog out to take a dump on the small patch of grass behind my building. Believe it or not, at night the ground is covered with 4" long leopard patterned slugs and Giant earth worms. One of the slugs had a gaping wound in its side and was trying to make a run for it while little white mites crawled in and out of its wound. There were some giant earth worms in close proximity, so I'm holding them responsible for the wound.Anyways here is what to expect in the future on the Salty Slug; The final paintings for the Shy One at The orgy story. Updates on the Twinkies and Robots show that is coming up, and the paintings I'll be doing for that show. And of course more shit I find funny. So please keep reading my little Slugglings.

"The Shy One at the Orgy" Paintings
So I started to do all the spreads and illustrations for the final graphic novel. I was planing on being done with project by the end of February. Adam and I wanted it ready and printed for NY Comic Con which is the weekend, but life throw me a fucking curve ball and knocked me off course. Now I'm getting back on track and excited to finish the paintings and lay the book out.

Above is the first finished spread. I busted it out in both Oils and Acrylics.

This is the second spread. I've actualy already started painting it, but I didn't snap a shot yet. I'll get that up soon. Here are some close-ups of the spread below.

This is a single page. Nice and naughty!
More to come...
Thanks,
Joe

The Real Party Painting
I Haven't even wanted to look at a paint brush let alone do any paintings with all the heavy personal stuff I've been going through over the last couple of weeks. But the Real Party deadlines are this Friday and my sister made me sit down and do a quick painting for the show. I guess just cause my personal life really sucks now my professional life doesn't have to also. I tried to do something not related to what I'm going through but that didn't work. The little painting totally represents how I feel my life is going right now. I did the painting in Acrylics rather than oils mainly because of the time limits. I'm glad I did it but I still don't want to paint.

Work in progress on my painting for the upcoming Circus Show
So for you who may or may not know, my buddy Joseph Galluccio and I are organizing a group show for this coming October. The theme is the circus. I'll be posting all the official info on that soon, but in the mean time I thought it might be cool to do a step by step of the piece I have to do for the show. Each artist participating in the show has to produce one 3'x5' painting for the show. So here is mine

It all started with a sketch, mostly for layout purposes. I actually sketched out all the characters individually first and then I did the crewed sketch above. If anyone is interested I can post the other sketches up later.
I decided to use a piece of MDF panel to paint on. Mostly because it is like painting on glass. I ran into some problems though. I could only find 3/4" thick MDF, I wanted 1/4" thick, mostly because the shit is real heavy. So I settled for the 3/4" stuff and bought this fancy gadget to hang the damn thing. Then I primed it which is what you see above.
After the primer dried, I sketch on my creatures. I made some modifications and added a crap load more of detail. I'm sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I just can't take a good picture.
Above an below are some close ups.

Next using oils I painted the sky, clouds, and the mountains, aka the background.
Here is a close up of the mountains.
In this photo above I started the main clowns head. Also in oils. Stay posted there will be more to come in the next couple of days. Let me know what you think. Later.
