Work in progress on my painting for the upcoming Circus Show
So for you who may or may not know, my buddy Joseph Galluccio and I are organizing a group show for this coming October. The theme is the circus. I'll be posting all the official info on that soon, but in the mean time I thought it might be cool to do a step by step of the piece I have to do for the show. Each artist participating in the show has to produce one 3'x5' painting for the show. So here is mine
It all started with a sketch, mostly for layout purposes. I actually sketched out all the characters individually first and then I did the crewed sketch above. If anyone is interested I can post the other sketches up later.
I decided to use a piece of MDF panel to paint on. Mostly because it is like painting on glass. I ran into some problems though. I could only find 3/4" thick MDF, I wanted 1/4" thick, mostly because the shit is real heavy. So I settled for the 3/4" stuff and bought this fancy gadget to hang the damn thing. Then I primed it which is what you see above.
After the primer dried, I sketch on my creatures. I made some modifications and added a crap load more of detail. I'm sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I just can't take a good picture.
Above an below are some close ups.
Next using oils I painted the sky, clouds, and the mountains, aka the background.
Here is a close up of the mountains.
In this photo above I started the main clowns head. Also in oils. Stay posted there will be more to come in the next couple of days. Let me know what you think. Later.
